Recruiting Provincial Team for 2026 Western Canada Development Series

 

We are recruiting six males and six females at the Junior (16-19) and U23 (20-22) age groups to represent our Province in the Western Canada Development Series (WDS) in draft legal triathlon and mixed team relay competition on the following dates:

  • June 6, 2026: Lott Creek Triathlon, Calgary Alberta
  • July 4-5, 2026: Echo Valley Multisport Festival, Fort Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan
  • August 9, 2026: Kelowna Apple Triathlon, Kelowna British Columbia

Athletes will travel as a team and compete for Series Awards at the Individual and Team Level.  Athletes will receive a Provincial Team travel suit as well as financial assistance ($250-$500) for out of province travel, including attendance at a High-Performance Development Camp in Victoria in May by 94 Forward.  More information about the Western Canada Development Series below and at the online meeting March 16th from 7 to 8 pm.

Purpose

The WCDS was created to provide opportunities for triathletes in Western Canada to:

  • Participate in draft-legal racing events closer to home.
  • Reduce the cost of traveling for athletes and Provinces.
  • Increase the number and quality of draft legal events in Western Canada.
  • Encourage the long-term growth and development of participating athletes, coaches, officials, and provincial programs in Western Canada.
  • Promote and celebrate the performance of athletes and provincial programs in Western Canada.
  • Prepare athletes for the National Development Series and teams in Canada.
  • Foster a culture of high-performance amongst athletes, coaches, officials, and communities within Western Canada.

Eligibility             

  • Meet age requirements for the applicable category (Junior/U19 or U23) as of December 31, 2026. Athletes in the U15 age (14-15) category may be considered for selection at the discretion of the Provincial Coaches and PSO, consistent with the LTAD objectives of the WDS.
  • Be a registered annual member in good standing with Triathlon Saskatchewan
  • Be a registered member of Triathlon Saskatchewan’s Athlete Excellence Program
  • Demonstrates motivation and readiness for high-performance training and draft-legal racing and athlete development.

Selection  

  • Athletes who meet the eligibility criteria will be considered for recruitment to the WDS Provincial Team.
  • Athletes who may not meet the eligibility criteria but would benefit from structured draft‑legal racing development opportunities, enhanced competition exposure, and coordinated coaching support may also be considered.
  • Athlete selection decisions will be based on a combination of any or all of the following:
    • Race results.
    • Demonstrated draft‑legal skills (e.g., pack awareness, bike handling, tactical decision‑making)
    • Commitment to attend competitions
    • Athlete development trajectory.

Final selection recommendations will be made by the Provincial Coaches to the Executive Director. Decisions will be communicated directly to athletes and their parents by the Provincial Coaches and Executive Director via email.

Timeline:

  • February 23 Application Opens
  • March 16th Information Meeting from 7 to 8 pm online (click here for link)
  • March 22 Applications Reviewed
  • March 29th Athletes Selected and Notified
  • April 6th Athlete and Parent Provincial Team Meeting

The Information Meeting on March 16th from 7 to 8 pm is open to all athletes and parents in triathlon and other sports exploring triathlon within a HP development context.
