Financial Controls and Practices for Athlete Assistance and Travel

In 2022, we revised our financial management practices to increase accountability and financial control of athlete assistance payments and clarify responsibility for travel.

Athlete Assistance Payments

– Athlete assistance is determined by the Provincial Coaches based on criteria above

– The Provincial Coaches will create a calendar of High-Performance Program events and budget that includes the names of athletes and the level of assistance and their own travel for competitions that are Provincial as in the Western Development Series and National or International

– Assistance is directed to these competitions and not those that fall outside of them.

Travel Responsibilities

– Travel is the responsibility of the athletes and families

– Typically, a team manager is selected from the travel team who works with the families and coaches on coordinating and scheduling competition travel.

– The coaches will personally cover their share of the cost if they are part of a shared booking. The manager should invoice the coach for their share as they would do athletes. The coach is then reimbursed by Tri Sask through our travel expense procedure.
