Meet Yvonne Cafik (@ycafik)
Q: When did you start Triathlon? What drew you into the sport?
A: On the encouragement of my daughter, I joined a running group when I moved to Regina in the summer of 2017. The running group, coached by Jen Ruland of Endurance Journey was a gateway into triathlon and the swimming, biking, and strength programming to prepare for my first sprint distance triathlon, the Spoke n Hot Women’s Only Triathlon in June 2018.
Q: What are some successes you’ve had recently?
A: I had so much fun and success in that initial triathlon that I signed up for another and have since competed every distance from Super-Sprint to Ironman. In 2023, I was part of Triathlon Canada’s Age Group Team competing in the World Championship Finals for the Standard Distance Triathlon in Pontevedra, Spain.
Q: How has Triathlon impacted your life and well-being?
A: I learned that while I enjoy triathlon and think it is a great sport, certainly one for life, I really love the challenge of marathon running and the feelings of well-being it returns to me.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
A: My advice is to sign up and engage and just do it! You’ll find your way, a community, and maybe what you really love to do!
Q: Is there anyone you would like to thank?
A: I wanted to thank my daughter for encouraging me and Endurance Coaches, Jen Ruland and Patrick Ash who coached me so well.
