ALYSSA KIMBER’S – Age Group Story

Meet Alyssa Kimber (@alyssakimber)!

Q: When did you start Triathlon? What drew you into the sport?
A: My first triathlon was in 2015, I completed an indoor super sprint race held in Saskatoon. I had joined the University of Saskatchewan Triathlon Club in my final year of university with some of my friends just to stay in shape. I had no plans to start racing but one thing lead to another! I was intrigued by the sport as I had some background in competitive swimming and cross country running through my high school years.

Q: What are some successes you’ve had recently?
A: This season I qualified for and competed in the first Women’s-Only Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i, a huge bucket list item for me! I finished in 12:22 with a PB on my bike leg.

Q: How has Triathlon impacted your life and well-being?
A: Both triathlon and cycling have had a big impact on my life. Besides the obvious health benefits of training for the sport, I’ve learned many important life skills like perseverance, mental strength, discipline, and confidence. I am lucky to have had several coaches who have supported my development in the sport as well as in my professional life.

Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
A: There’s so much to learn about the sport when you’re first starting out (I’m still learning 9 years into it!). If you can afford a coach I strongly recommend it. If not, find a supportive community who can guide you and your training.

Q: Is there anyone you would like to thank?
A: Always thankful for my coaches and my cycling community: CIS cycling, Endurance Journey and HPL Cycling.
